Chris Podlesnik
Lecturer
PhD
I received my BA from West Virginia University and PhD from Utah State University before completing postdoctoral training at The University of Michigan. Arriving at The University of Auckland in 2011, I joined the Experimental Analysis of Behavior Research Unit (EABRU) with Drs. Doug Elliffe and Michael Davison. I have served on the Board of Editors for the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior and received the Division 25 Early Researcher Award by the American Psychological Association (APA).
My research interests broadly fall within the fields of the experimental analysis of behavior and behavioral pharmacology. Much of my research explores how reinforcement associated with stimulus contexts influences the persistence and relapse of behavior occurring in the presence of those contexts, as well as preference for one context over another. The goal of this research is to answer basic scientific questions regarding how value of stimuli impact behavior, but is relevant for understanding factors influencing the generalization and maintenance of treatment for behavioral disorders. Within these general frameworks, my interests include animal models of observing and attention, conditioned reinforcement, drugs as aversive stimuli, and quantitative models of behavior.
