Biography

Prior to working as a Clinical Psychologist I qualified and worked as both a Registered General Nurse and Mental Health Nurse in the UK. I worked mainly in HIV hospice settings within nursing. I was then a lead researcher of a study examining Gay Men’s coping styles across the life span of their HIV/AIDS diagnoses, at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London. I gained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College London and went on to work in the East End of London with Older Adults. I worked as Director of the Psychology Clinic at the University of Sydney prior to moving to New Zealand.

Research interests

I currently work as both the Director of Psychology Clinic at the University of Auckland and as a senior clinical psychologist within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) based at Green Lane Hospital, Auckland. Particular research and clinical issues I am interested in include: successful ageing, working with people who have behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia; and life span development.
