Bachelor of Arts / Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Science (BSc)/Arts (BA) (Honours) totals 120 points and requires one year of full time study after the successful completion of the BA or BSc. Students are required to take level 700 courses and submit an honours dissertation.

The main difference between honours and the postgraduate diploma is the research dissertation component of the degree. A dissertation is a supervised piece of research. If you are planning on doing an honours degree it is advisable to make contact with potential supervisors in the year preceding your application.

Students enrolling in an honours degree must take:

  • PSYCH 788 S1 & S2 Honours Dissertation in Psychology (45 points)
  • Other 700 level courses (75 points)

Selection into honours will be based on academic merit and it also dependent on the availability of supervision. Students are ranked for selection using their best four grades in Stage III Psychology, including PSYCH 306.

All students must meet the minimum faculty grade point average requirements. To ensure you meet these requirements please check the University Calendar.

Honours dissertation students are also invited to participate in a seminar series. This series is designed to give honours dissertation students:

  1. exposure to writing and presenting research findings in an open forum
  2. an opportunity to interact with fellow students, supervisors and other staff on an informal basis during the academic year.

The series is comprised of eight sessions, scheduled intermittently during Semesters 1 and 2.

After graduating with BA/BSc (Hons), it is possible to progress to a Masters degree or to a doctorate.
